7 Things You Need to Get Started in the Live Streaming Industry

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Live streaming seems like it's an easy enough job, but honestly, there are a few tricks of the trade that make it easier to get started quickly!

Although live streaming is certain to test your patience, it will open your eyes to a whole new type of online community, and it really will teach you so many new things!

We'll be honest - it can be frustrating, draining and just plain chaotic... But it also can be very fun, social and quite rewarding... There are so many amazing people to meet while live streaming, and you will make lots of new friends that you may very well keep for a life time! Live streaming is truly what you make it!

Lucky for you, Avenue Agency has got your back... We've compiled a list of the 7 THINGS YOU NEED TO GET STARTED IN THE LIVE STREAMING INDUSTRY!

Let's hit it...

1) Smart Phone, Laptop or Tablet

Ensure you have a relatively new and upgraded smart phone, laptop or tablet that you can use to broadcast. If you don't have a device, you cannot get started, so this is arguably the most important thing you will need to begin your streaming career.

Most people opt to stream on their cell phone, as the camera's quality is usually the best on that type of device compared to others, but whatever you have will do.

2) Fast Wi-Fi Connection

It is really easy to become frustrated when you don't have a good Wi-Fi connection to stream on. Sometimes the broadcast may lag or freeze, or even close down and crash. Save yourself the headache and ensure you are on a quick and reliable Wi-Fi connection (or at the very least, are somewhere with impeccable cellular data service)

3) Ringlight

We highly recommend getting a ring light for live streaming! During day light hours, you can sit by a window or outdoors, but if you plan to ever stream in the evening or at night, a ring light is crucial!

You can find decent ring lights on Amazon for a cheap price! The best kind have an adjustable stand that goes short enough to sit on your desk, but also can extend tall enough to stand on the floor up to where you will sit or stand!

4) A Clean Area to Stream

Do us all a favour and MAKE SURE YOU STREAM IN A NEAT AND ORGANIZED AREA! There is nothing worse than logging onto someone's broadcast and seeing them sitting in a dirty mess...

Some people create their own back drops, or even stage aesthetic items behind them, in order to get creative with decorating their live streaming spaces!

With that said, a fancy back drop certainly is not required - A plain wall in your home is just fine for your broadcast!

5) A Talent or Skill

Many people use live streaming as an opportunity to showcase a talent or skill they might have - Anything from singing, dancing, DJing, cooking, sports/fitness, make-up/beauty tutorials, art, magic, gaming, comedy, etc...

Virtually anyone can log onto a live streaming app and see content that interests them!

With that being said, it is not required to have a talent or skill to showcase to the world... Just engaging and chatting with your audience in a relatable is also a great option!

6) Friendly Personality

This is a MUST!

If you don't have a talent or skill to showcase, no problem - BUT YOU HAVE TO BE FRIENDLY and ENGAGING! No one wants to watch a Sour Sally... (and viewers are crucial to your streaming experience)

PRO TIP: Try just chatting with your audience and base your next talking point on things that people say or ask you in your chat! If all else fails and you need subject matter, try reviewing a movie, product or current event!

7) A Thick Skin

We hate to say it, but the world is filled with A LOTTTT of questionable characters... And those questionable people may come in your live stream here and there and make rude comments, but that is literally why the block button was designed! Don't let people like that get to you... Just remember their unhappiness and disdain really is only a reflection of themselves, and then just move on. It's best not to allow people like that to live in your head rent-free!

Although it may be tempting, DO NOT acknowledge any of their negative comments, as you do not want to give them the reaction they are there looking for. Simply kick them of your room... Oh, and the block button will become your best friend... Trust us on that one!
